The Bitfinex crypto exchange stopped working and announced a distributed denial of service (DDoS) network attack.
We are investigating what seems like a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. We will keep everyone updated on here and our status page https://t.co/u3pYCVVGQq as we know more.— Bitfinex (@bitfinex) February 28, 2020
No details are yet known, the platform will inform about the incident's progress.
The exchange has already become the object of DDoS attacks. A similar incident happened in February 2017, but it practically did not affect the platform. However, in December of the same year, Bitfinex, like today, went offline for some reason as a result of a DDoS attack.

In August 2016, the platform lost 800 user bitcoins as a result of hacking. A successful attack on one of the largest trading platforms then negatively affected the price of the first cryptocurrency.
Update: The platform tweeted about resolving the issue with the attack!
Services on the Bitfinex platform have resumed. We implemented a stricter protection level as a result of our platform coming under a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack. All issues relating to the DDoS attack have now been resolved.— Bitfinex (@bitfinex) February 28, 2020
